Cracking the Code
So Bug like a lot of kids with autism, will repeat syllables over and over again. When he is doing it, he likes you to copy him. I always thought in his mind he is saying something, I just didn't know what it was. For the last year he has been doing this same one where he says, "dudduhduh huh wadah." I know it well because I've had to say it with him so much. Monday night I was at my parents house, and he started to say it again, but this time he added at the end, "Winnie the Pooh." I knew he had to be singing a song about Winnie the Pooh, and I look down and he is playing with an Eeyore stuffed animal. And then it clicked! "duhduhduh" translation, Deeping in the "huh" hundred acre woods "wadah" where Christopher Robin plays. He was so excited! He had this sparkle in his eye that said, "You understand me!" It was so precious having the moment of recognition in his face. He wanted me to keep singing it with him. When we got home that night, I wanted him to sing it for Hubby, but he said "No, night night." We are going to have to get working on the next code! It starts with "yaha". Any guesses?

ReplyDeleteIt took a year to figure it out but it was so worth it! Give him a hug for me!
ReplyDeleteI think it's amazing that you take the time to realize these miracles. This story made me cry it's so sweet. I love that you appreciate your children for the gifts that they are.
ReplyDeleteNo idea about yada, but I think Heavenly Father is sending you a way to help him. That is so awesome! You have a billion times more patience and inspiration than I do, so I know it will come. ;)
