Payoff!

Today was our Primary Program, and I have wanted so long for Bug to participate in it. They usually give him a line to say, but there was no way for him to understand what was going on. Early this year he started doing what I call the parrot. If I have something he wanted like a cookie, I could get him to repeat almost anything. So we thought we would try it with the program. His first attempt was at the practice yesterday morning. I had been able to get him to say his part at home, but in front of people is a whole different story! He was very cute walking up to the mic, and seemed to know he was supposed to speak into it. I had oreo cookies for him, but I couldn't get him to repeat his line. He just said, "fishy, cracker, potty." Needless to say, the kids were giggling. I was really worried that it would distract from the spirit of the meeting, but the presidency assured me they wanted him to do it.
Bug was the last line in the program, and I walked him up to the stage, and again he came up to the mic ready to talk. He only said some of the words, but he did so well! He didn't scream or throw a fit, it was just precious. Just having him try and do the best he could do was a huge payoff! The Spirit was so strong, and many people got teary. I love my ward! I should mention as well, the program itself went really well, and Boy was amazing too! He gave a talk he had written. He is such a blessing in my life!
Also today, he cleaned up his Bob the Builder toys without any help or prompts! He just did it, and then came to Hubby and said, "track, a door, key" He wanted his train set, and he knew he had to clean up his other toys to get it! What a good boy! So for a treat I wanted to share a video Hubby made of Bug. This is why the blog is called "Ordinary Miracles." The little things he does like picking up his toys may seem ordinary, but to us it is a miracle!

  1. What a great miracle heather! I think it's so neat that he was able to get up there and participate. And cleaning up his own toys. He's growing and changing so much!

  4. This is so touching Heather! I have known and loved a few "Matthews" in my teaching career. There is nothing to compare to the subtle successes that bust you wide open with sunshine, knowing how unlikely and precious they are! Woot for adorable Matthew! My grandsons are the lucky ducks to have a friend like him.
