I know it has been a long time since I have blogged. I will give a summer update next, but this time I wanted to share a funny store that happened all the way back at Spring Break.
My hubby is a web developer and one of the clients he worked for was a cabin place. We were told to use the cabins as part of the gig so we decided to be adventurous.
If you remember, Spring Break was cold this year, and there was still snow up in the mountains where we were going. We just have a minivan, so my hubby called to make sure the roads were good. The owners assured us the roads were plowed, and they plow the parking lot too.
After a relaxing ride we finally reached our destination and saw something fun up ahead. The road was clear, but the parking lot was covered in several feet of snow. Hooray! So of course just trying to get in and park, we got stuck, as did many other guests. Luckily people were helping each other, and an hour later (I'm not exaggerating) we headed for our cabin.
We proceeded to unload, get the kids in, and try and make dinner. The Bug was bouncing off the walls, and it was tricky, but we did it. We finally got everyone settled down for the night but a few hours later, the Bug was up! We were only staying in a quaint one room cabin, so needless to say everybody was up. One of the hard things with the Bug is that once he wakes up, he is up. It was a VERY long night.
When morning finally arrived, we hurried and ate breakfast and proceeded to pack up our car. My wonderful hubby got everything in and we started walking with the kids up to our car. Now our cabin was at the very edge of a mountain, so there was a walk way and then a huge drop down the mountain, all covered in several feet of snow. It looked really pretty. Well, as we are headed up the trail, my hubby said that he is just going to let the Bug walk on his own since he is right in front of him, and I am right behind him. Do you see where this is going?
No sooner had he let go, then the Bug literally threw himself down the mountain side into the snow. He LOVES snow. It was one of the scariest moments of my life! He just kept rolling and rolling and my hubby dove after him. He got down to where he had stopped and wanted me to try and help the bug up the mountain. I tried, but short legs in all that snow was useless, but eventually we got the Bug and my hubby back on the trail. I just know the Bug has a bubble of Angels protecting him. There were rocks and sticks sticking out right were he was rolling, and he didn't have a scartch.
We got to the car, and it only took a half an hour to get out!!! As we got back on the road my hubby was venting in frustration on how it was the worst trip ever. I said, one day we can look back and laugh, and now we are.
We keep joking that they should make a reality tv show out of our vacations. We think people would watch and say, "What are they thinking?"
Yes, vacations are challenging, but worth it. Even that one. We were talking about it last night, and I just said that at least that trip made all the others look like cake! I've said it before, I refuse to live in a cave and I want my other kids to get to experience trips. We have just learned our limits of what works and what doesn't.
Now, you may be asking yourself, how is that a funny story? It is funny to me, how many things went wrong, and I can't tell the story without laughing. It goes without saying, we won't be trying those particular cabins again, snow or not. The most important part is that despite it all, my kids had a great time!
You also may be asking what is this picture at the top? We didn't take any pictures of our amazing adventure, but I thought this would suffice. This is a picture that the Bug draws frequently and tapes up on the wall. He LOVES snow. In fact today, he got all his snow gear on. Yes, I know there is no snow on the ground right now (thank goodness) but he knows it is coming.
What a great little artist he is! I don't think I had heard about that particular adventure before. I'm excited to keep reading you! Come read me at allthingserin.blogspot.com.
